you have any views or comments, please contact us. Although
better than many other villages, Roslin and Bilston suffer from areas of litter,
rubbish and fly-tipping. Here are some practical ways in which we can beat the
problem: Illegal
DumpingThis
is a common problem, caused by a small number of ignorant people. Apart from creating
eyesores, fly tipping can harm the environment and cause pollution and other health
hazards. - if
you witness a fly-tipper, find a fly-tipping site or have information about fly
tippers, call the 'National Fly-Tipping Stop Line' on 08452 30 40 90. Why
not type this number into your mobile just in case!
- a
person caught fly-tipping can be fined up to £20,000 or face a custodial
sentance
- dog
fouling can cause major health problems to humans, if you allow your dog to foul
a public place without removing it, you could be given a fixed penalty fine of
£40.
There
is no need to illegally dump as the council provides a number of services to help
dispose of unwanted material for you. How
to get rid of rubbish -
if you have bulky waste, call the Councils 'Bulky Collections Service' on 0131
561 5284
- ensure
you present your refuse for collection by 7:30 am on the allocated day
of collection
- the
council offers a commercial waste collection service - call 0131 561 5248 for
more details
- You can
recycle your waste at the following locations:
Unintentional
Litter - litter
can be spread during high winds, including from the Oatslie
Landfill Site to the south of Roslin
- ensure
all refuse is contained in the wheelie bin with the lid closed
