Clive Young (Site Manager - WRG), Richard Witney (Roslin), Catherine
Longville-Taylor (Roslin), David Campbell (SEPA), Mike Smith (SEPA) Apologies:
Lynn McFadyen
Action 1 Site Tour Carried out a tour of the site.
Inspected the western side and flank of site. This is to be capped by Oct. The
group raised the issue of more waste appearing on the newly grassed flank which
can be seen from the main road to Roslin. The top area is still work in progress
but will be covered with top soil in the next few weeks. The power cable for
the landfill gas generation power plant is being trenched at present. This will
go underground to Gorebridge. 2 Environmental Issues Flies The
group raised the issue of flies. WRG has not seen an increase of fly population
on the site. Odours The group stated there had been some odours detected
on the main road to Roslin but this was one day. No complaints had been raised
with SEPA.
3
Complaints SEPA reported 5 complaints of flies last week but these could
not be traced to the site.
4
Pollution Prevention Control Permit WRG and SEPA discussed with the group
WRG's appeal of the conditions stipulated in the site's Pollution Prevention Control
permit. This came into force in January and replaced the previous waste management
licence. WRG explained the PPC takes a more risk based approached requiring the
site to regulate itself. SEPA will be consulting with the liaison group regarding
the PPC permit and the appealed conditions. It was agreed that SEPA would email
the permit and appeal document to Richard and he will consult with the rest of
the liaison group. 5 AOB The group discussed the meetings.
Both WRG and SEPA find the meetings very worthwhile and would like to see them
continue. 6
Date of next meeting The next meeting will be in 3 months time. |
