Action
1 Introductions
Paul Valentine (Roslin) is a new member of the liaison Group.

2 Site Tour

The group inspected the site and Clive Young explained what was going on. Phase 3 is close to capping stage and will then be connected up to the gas extraction system. The site looked in a good condition.
One member of the group stated that the level of cover on the top of the flank of phase 3 looked inadequate. SEPA confirmed this and stated that the level of cover should be increased.
The slope of phase 3 facing Penicuik Road will be capped and restored with grass over the next few months.

3 Environmental Issues
Odours
The group has not been aware of odours in the area over the last few months except for faint smells.

4 Complaints
WRG stated there had been 2 fly complaints neither substantiated by SEPA, and 2 bird complaints regarding the use of the falconer to deter birds from the site, since the last meeting. Both were followed up. With regard to flies, WRG has produced a graph of the fly count at the site and it shows a very low level of flies compared to last year. WRG has only had to spray once this year (wc 18/7/05). See graph.
SEPA stated that a few years ago there was a fly outbreak in September so WRG should stay vigilant.

5 Open day feedback
WRG had about 25 visitors to the site during the open day and had some good feedback. The group agreed that this was a good event to arrange.

6 Planning application update
Planning application submitted 1/8/05. There is a 2 month statutory consultation period and it is likely to take 4-6 months. Application & supporting documents will be in Roslin library.

7 Communication with Community
The minutes are now on the new Community Council website www.roslinandbilston.co.uk. Issues can be raised via the website. A poster is in the Roslin library window with contact details for the site and SEPA and a file is available inside.
